There must be some word today
It's election porn time again, and the mailman dropped off a couple of beauties yesterday. But before examining these specimens of political Americana, I note that the famous funnyman Mr. Dave Barry has been getting his share of these kinds of mailers, too, and he gives us his in-depth analysis here.
The stuff we get in Portland is not anywhere near as amusing as Mr. Dave Barry, but in absolute terms, it's still pretty comical. For example, here's one from political zombie Serena Cruz, who's back for resumed siphoning of the county payroll:
Wow. If this were a music festival, it would be called Hackfest '26. If there was any doubt as to who the machine candidate is in that race, the mailer removes it. I'm ranking Cruz no. 3 to avert complete disaster, but my no. 1 rank goes to her opponent, Nabil Zaghloul.
Nestled in the mailbox with the Cruz piece was a glossy four-pager from the ACLU, which reminds us that the Republican running for governor, Christine Drazan, is the devil incarnate. Which isn't that far from the truth, actually, but it's still interesting how this flyer goes about sucking the reader in to that rhetorical point:
At the bottom comes the howler in the whole thing:
As Dave Barry would say, Ha! Ha! Sure, this is hypocrisy at its lowest, but it doesn't matter. I'd rather be dead than vote for a Republican. Once upon a time, there were the Norma Pauluses and Mark Hatfields, whom I could conscientiously support, but after two doses of Trump, it's clear that we must never vote for a Republican, for anything, ever again. There's nothing more to talk about.

In the 60’s, I had several conversations with Hatfield. Mark didn’t have a conservative bone in his body. He was a RINO.
ReplyDeleteIn the 60s, the Republican party was an intelligent moderate party. Then, in Oregon, the christian right infested the party.
DeleteThose damn Christians. Always standing up for principles.
DeleteIt's the repetitive TV ads, especially the ones where they try to be funny & fail miserably at it, that are driving me nuts this time, geez...
ReplyDeleteAlthough it was amusing when I saw an ad here for a candidate in Maine (a GOP operative later admitted their mistake, when doing an ad-buy - 'Oops, wrong Portland!').
Never vote for a Republican = never end the Democratic Machine.
ReplyDeleteJack does not care because all Democrats are wonderful, all Republicans are evil, and Libertarians are a wasted voted.
DeleteUnfortunately, Jack still thinks this is a blue team/red team world and doesn't realize that no matter who you vote for, you get John McCain.
