Undeath notice

I see that Serena Cruz is running to get back on the Multnomah County Commission, from my district no less. She was term-limited out of that office many years ago after her stint as one of the Mean Girls (ugh), and since then she served as the county's chief operating officer under Deadly Deborah and Chevy Vega.

Cruz also ran the Virginia Garcia health organization for a while. That's a legit outfit. But I guess she missed her county paycheck, the bureaucrat lifestyle, and that sweet, sweet PERS. She probably gets the platinum version.

Apparently the term limit rules allow you to make a comeback after sitting out at least a term, and so she's going for it. Seven or eight years of it was not enough. Now at age 59, she wants to retire out of the place.

Given Cruz's résumé running the county through failure after failure, regarding homelessness and drugs among other issues, my knee-jerk reaction is a hard no. But given the alternatives, she might be the least of the evils. We'll have to see what the final field looks like next month.

In the meantime, my main question for her is which candidate she supports for county chair. If it's Shannon Singleton, hit the gong hard – I'd rather vote for a nut candidate for the commission, and no doubt there will be a few available. If she says Sharon Meieran, there's hope for Cruz yet. But my guess is that she'll be noncommittal.

I see that her marriage into the Walsh Construction family has ended. Strictly from a political point of view, that's a positive development. But gosh, Serena Cruz again? Really?

I wonder what Meieran thinks. She's may dance around the question, too.

In any event, an entertaining few months lie ahead with this one. But seriously, it's a biggie. If the grownups can't get the county back, the doom loop will  accelerate even further.

  1. If the local media would just report the facts about candidates instead of telling us what to think.
