Hitting a nerve

My post this morning about the hypocrisy of the socialist half of the Portland City Council regarding nondisclosure agreements got an unexpected response on Bluesky. Two of the dim bulbs glowed brightly for a moment to tell me how wrong I was.

I see that "Smokey" Green wants me to consult with him before pointing out his follies. I will have to look him up the next time I'm in Tigard.

We're stuck with Kanal for another 27 months, but voters in District 4 will have a chance in a couple of months to send Mitch back to whatever it is that economists do.

As for the substance of my post and their response, if these guys are so opposed to NDA's, it's within their power to see to it that the city stops signing them. They could do that tomorrow.

  1. I get more quality in-depth reporting from you and other area bloggers than I get from The Oregonian and Willamette Week put together. I may not always agree with your perspective on some items, but you do a real community service. Thank you, and please keep the good work.

  2. Politicians love NDAs but will not acknowledge that reality publicly. The NDAs enable them to silence their mistakes using the hard-earned money of the people they purport to represent. This practice is sick and should not be legal.

  3. Just a reminder that one of the mayor's "duties" under the silly new city charter is: "Authorize, negotiate and execute all contracts and intergovernmental agreements, consistent with the City budget."

In other words, the mayor has explicit authority to enter into NDAs with anyone.

    1. Yes, but I'm sure that can be restricted by ordinance. Or if not, by charter amendment.

    2. And if I understand the new Charter correctly(?), the Council proposing this data center item only as a "resolution" that would "ask" CA Lee's office to monitor the permit applications for new data centers - their hands are tied by the Charter-?? (As opposed to the Council being able to to "order" the CA to do something.) There's a Council of 12, but the Mayor has autonomous control over something like this-?

  4. Ha ha, oh dude, you certainly did strike a nerve...
Have you read the data center Council agenda item that started this little dust-up-?? It's like they just figured out what zoning is (and that there's ways they can change it).
Plus, won't it be challenged by data center developers, when their applications are being singled-out - if it passes, CA Lee's office would have to watch for any new data center permit applications & notify the Council if one is received (I think I agree with the intent of what they're trying to do, I've just never seen this).

  5. A Portland city councilor professed his “pure hatred for the Portland police,” defended and promoted rioting and mocked business owners seeking help from the city in a series of resurfaced social media posts he deleted prior to running for elected office in 2024.

Councilor Mitch Green made dozens of provocative public statements between 2020 and 2021 on what was then Twitter, where he also appeared to make thinly veiled threats about landlords and billionaires, trash July 4 celebrations and hurl a variety of other invective, according to archived copies online.

The revelation comes as Green, one of four democratic socialists on City Council, seeks reelection this fall and is the latest among a series of actions by the councilor to come under scrutiny.

    1. He's a piece of work, to be sure. The illegal backyard burning, the tax delinquency, now this.

  6. “There’s an elephant in the room”. I know that’s an over used figure of speech. But, the organized destruction of our local culture seems to fit that comment perfectly.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog2@gmail.com and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
