High maintenance
The quicksand is sinking faster under Lori Chavez-DeRemer, the former Happy Valley mayor and one-term Congressperson currently kissing up to Dear Leader as U.S. Secretary of Labor. On top of the rest of her scandals, today we are reminded that LCD's Congressional office was accused of workplace discrimination, and we learn that the nation's taxpayers had to pay nearly $100,000 last year to resolve the case brought by the victim.
This news comes via the New York Post, which is where Oregonians go to learn about their public figures these days. The Post dug the information out of this new report, issued by a Congressional office that apparently oversees payment of such damages.
Details about what the exact allegation was, and against whom the alleged offense was committed, are not contained in the report. The claim was made under section 201 of the Congressional Accountabilty Act of 1995, which provides:
All personnel actions affecting covered employees shall be made free from any discrimination based on—
(1) race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, within the meaning of section 703 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000e–2);
(2) age, within the meaning of section 15 of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (29 U.S.C. 633a); or
(3) disability, within the meaning of section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. 791) and sections 102 through 104 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (42 U.S.C. 12112–12114)
Wow. LCD, what a piece of work. Here she is the Labor secretary, and this is what the taxpayers are bailing her out about, to the tune of $98,650? While her office seems to have been the only one in all of the House of Representatives that had that kind of claim paid last year.
The case in question was probably this one, filed by a former caseworker.
Meanwhile, party people around the country, we regret to inform you that the 50-state tour is probably going to be cut short.
