House Hunters – Congress Edition!

I see that former Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith, who couldn't get a seat on the Portland City Council, now thinks she's going to be in the United States Congress. She says she's going to run in the new Sixth District, which due to the crazy gerrymandering that the politicians inflict these days, runs from Jesuit High School in Portland out to the farthest reaches of Yamhill and Polk Counties.

Hysterically, Smith doesn't even live in this district, but she says she'll be buying a house there (though legally she isn't required to). She'll be shopping for a while while the challenge to the district maps works its way through the state court machinery. In the meantime, she'll stay in her home in northeast Portland.

Let's help her!

We can pick out three houses in the district for her to consider. Let's give her a budget of $500,000. When we've got all three profiled, we can guess which one she'd pick.

I'll kick things off with this first one, a beauty on Highway 22 in Willamina. Just a couple of minutes' drive from Spirit Mountain Casino! With four bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1600 square feet, it's fenced for animals, and it comes with a large shop, a small barn, and water rights. The roof and gutters are only four years old!

And of course, the property tax will be only a fraction of what she has to pay in tax-crazy Portland.

Do you think it's a good fit for her?

Readers, help me out. Find some other houses for Smith to consider in the $500,000 range in her new favorite congressional district. Post the links in the comments here or email them to me at jackbogsblog@comcast.net. Let's make sure she doesn't overlook that perfect spot!
