New this fall from Comedy Central

I see that the City of Portland is reducing the speed limit on a dangerous stretch of Halsey Street. The city is declaring an emergency. This is supposedly a big deal.

But honestly, what a joke! The Portland police are down to one traffic cop for the whole city. The force's most notorious motorcycle cop is apparently still sitting out a lengthy paid vacation for misconduct on the job. The City Hall bureaucrats can lower the speed limit to zero – ban all cars throughout the city if they want – but it isn't going to make any difference.

Maybe the 24 new park rangers could help out.

  1. Maybe get together with a few neighbors and construct your own speed bump. The City might tear it out eventually, but it's not like anyone's going to stop you.

    1. It seems the speed limit reduction on these streets is another feel-good action that will have little or no real impact. I'm pretty sure people traveling at 35 or 40 MPH are not the motorists who are killing pedestrians. It's the clowns doing 50, 60, 70 or more who are the problem; reducing a 35 MPH speed limit to 30 won't slow down those jackasses. But, boy oh boy, the city can feel good about doing something, and it is cheap to implement.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
