The past tense has never sounded so good

Now that the Electoral College garbage is out of the way, I'm starting to see some public discussion of Orange Caligula that refers to his tenure in public office as something that's over.

He has 36 more days to steal, inflict harm on our institutions, and drag the country through the hell hole that is his life. After that, he won't matter any more, except to people stupid enough to pay attention to him.

Congress will be going home soon, and then they won't be back until January 3. On that date, the Republicans will still have control of the Senate. They and the outgoing White House goon will still have 17 days together to grind out more misery for the nation and the world.

On the 5th, Georgia votes for the remaining two senators, and there's a chance (although I don't think it's likely) that two Democrats could win, which would hand control of the Senate to the vice president. That will be the awful Mike Pence until the 20th. On the other hand, if a Republican wins in Georgia, the evil Mitch McConnell will resume destroying the country, assuming he hasn't died of whatever's wrong with him.

But regardless of what happens in Georgia – on the 20th, which is a Wednesday, we will sweep a lot of vermin out of the federal government. It will be a great relief.

And why postpone joy? The past tense is already here for us to relish. I'm savoring it like a nice hot chocolate.

    1. I don't see the parallel. Biden is what the Republicans used to be. Wheeler is sort of like Trump but at the other extreme.

    2. Biden WAS what the Republicans used to be. He had to sell his soul to get the nomination and support in the general election. Look at who he has surrounding him and the political debts owed. He is not strong enough anymore to forge his own path. Heck, he doesn’t even know where the path is half of the time.

    3. I don’t see any parallels between Wheeler and Trump at all. Wheeler has no convictions. Either does Trump really except that he usually does what he says that he is going to do. I think that he had good intentions for the country but didn’t have the self control to keep focused instead of picking fights with any and all who he feel crossed him.

    4. Biden is not going to be a lefty wackjob. Trump is a scumbag who has no values whatsoever except what he sees in the mirror and in his bank account. If you think he had good intentions for the country, then I can't help you. Wheeler has no values, either, that I can see. He just needs something to do and a way to have his ego stroked. Very Donald.

  2. For me this week has been the answer to a real mystery. I've been genuinely puzzled why Trump got to progressives so much. He's been living in their heads now for 4 years and I never got why they would allow it to happen to them. It's one thing to hate someone - it's another to let him drive you into a frothing incensed rage. This is the guy from the Apprentice, right?

From 2016 on progressives sounded like arrogant entitled brats who didn't get the right present on Christmas morning. I understand the loathing but I'll never get how immature they seemed. Oh, and how uncool. What bothered me personally was their willingness to engage in a confrontation with Russia just to sell a story that sounded like a 5th grader wrote it in a Creative Writing Class. Where did they get off thinking they had the right to risk all of our lives just to try and take down a president. Progressives were supposed to be the cool ones, remember?

I grew up in an era when the Republicans were hopelessly square guardians of the establishment and the Dems represented youth a little more. There was a clear divide between Nixon and JFK for example. One was impossible to relate to for me; the other was downright cool. So to see this bunch of Democrats losing their composure so thoroughly has been quite disappointing.

One lasting image of this era will be Kathy Griffin holding a severed fake head of Trump to show how devout she was in her feelings about him. That was weird. Could they possible be this primitive and strange about things? It was like a mob of village bumpkins in the 15th century.

So how did this week give us the final piece of the puzzle? See, the vaccine was an opportunity to have some of them admit that Trump did something right but there's no way they're going near that. I'm sure most of them will line up to get the shot - a shot that could save their lives - but their attitude remains the same. Not a bit of gratitude. To me that's the ultimate mark of immaturity. It's the inability to acknowledge reality because you're so stuck in your temper tantrum. It's the adult version of holding your breath until you turn blue.

Now that the boogie man is gone, take a few weeks to tell yourself how noble you've been, and then grow up. Life will be better for everyone.

    1. Sorry, Jack. You're 100% right. I think I'm just revved up about the vaccine.

  3. Comic writer is upset about an ill-advised stunt at a comic's photo shoot. That then short-circuited the comic's career. Not so much about actual threats on the lives of election officials. But yeah, brattiness. The horror.
