Stick a fork in it

Another Saturday night in Portland, and the avengers of all societal wrongs were busy. They torched a police car! The vehicle, a Ford SUV, had already been in a minor wreck, and it was sitting in the city lot under the Fremont Bridge on-ramp network at the foot of Mississippi Avenue.

Police "suspect" arson. Gee, d'ya think?

Now, you would think there are security cameras all over that city property, and that detectives would be looking through the footage to identify some suspects. But that assumes competence, and diligence.

It's been quite a weekend for the anarchists, and it's only Sunday morning. Speaking of which, as a footnote to Wednesday night's riot: The vandals also trashed a statue in the Lone Fir Cemetery. "Don't forget to dishonor a vet."

And the downtown Christmas tree is shaping up to be Ground Zero for hand-to-hand combat, or worse, between Proud Boys and Antifa all season long.

It is so sad to see Portland dying, night by night. Every incident makes it less likely that the city will recover any time soon. I wish we had a real mayor, and a real police chief. Something tells me that at this time next year, we will have a different mayor, and a different chief. Just a hunch.

  1. You know who I feel sorry for? The people who called 9-1-1 who are still waiting for that squad car to get to their house.

  2. As a former lobbyist, I was often in favor of trashing statutes, particularly when they were poorly drafted and likely to cause more harm than good.

    1. Forgive him he's a lawyer and law professor, and spelling statue as statute is a sign of zealous study.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
