How it's done
I see that the silent majority of moderate liberals in Portland are finally getting their act together and organizing a bit to counteract the Che Guevara types on the far-left flank of the local Democratic Party. The middle-of-the-roaders, calling themselves "Go Portland Go," have got a clear, simple set of "voter guides" for the upcoming local elections posted here.
I agree with them, except as to the Multnomah County chair. They're not calling it as between JBE and Meieran. They just say "rank" them both. I'm ranking Meieran first, and JBE second. Only one of them can win, and they're not equally good. Absolutely not.
But this literature is right, do not rank Singleton at all in that race; rank the other two as insurance against Singleton. And do not rank anyone, in any race, whom you don't want to win. You can leave as many bubbles as you wish blank.
Whoever put up the money for this effort should be commended, but of course, they'll probably be condemned. The kids at the Weed and the Merc have a macro on their keyboards for "well-heeled business interests from the West Hills," and I'm sure they'll be pressing it if they get around to covering these guides.

Like all middle of the roadsters, the GO gang would rather not be named...except in very small print way down at the bottom of their web page. This is one of the biggest problems in Portland politics: no one wants to step out of the cowering crowd and plant their flag and take the shots. But voters want to attach REAL people to issues; they want to know enough about them to trust them. And they're rightly cynical about high-minded criteria and goals. They've been down that path before.
ReplyDeleteB/C they don’t want some violent gang type threatening and/or harassing them, that’s why. However, Max Steele has been very outspoken and studious in his critique of DSA and Mitch Green.
