Of course, no on 26-267
In Portland, we're voting on a ballot measure that would subject 2 percent of the city's budget to some sort of goofball public-vote free-for-all. This is even more ridiculous than the city charter amendments, which have quickly led to the declaration of City Hall as a policy disaster area.
No one with a lick of sense supports the foolhardy budget idea, Measure 26-267. It's too much even for the kids at the Merc! That tells you something. Portlanders, please hunt this down on the ditzy ballot bingo card and put your pencil to the negatory.
And get off my lawn with this junk! Who thinks this stuff up? Get a job, ya punks!

Who comes up with this shit?
ReplyDeleteI only see endorsements for it from the groups behind the measure, so it's probably not going-anywhere.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh-yes, this measure is ridiculous. We already have ample opportunity to 'participate' in City Budgeting, but that's just too much bother for most folks (look at the public-testimony numbers on the various Council agenda items).
So some people will vote for this measure - Politics for Dummies - instead of learning anything about the City Budget & providing testimony on it (or joining a working committee, etc.), they think they can just bypass that whole thing & still maybe get 2% of the budget for shiny new projects in their-own neighborhoods.
The lack of understanding in this country about our basic democratic processes is terrifying.
'Democracy requires participation', but whoever originally said that didn't mean idiotic sh!t like this.
We get this crap when there’s no real supervision of who gets to feed at the public trough.
ReplyDeleteAnd people are bringing up how vague it is. The 'Peacocks' think voters should add this to the Charter, as is-?!?
