Too much to absorb
If you watch on television the same sporting events that I do, you've probably already seen this ad more times than you want to. It's an attack ad on Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, obviously produced and paid for by supporters of Republican challenger Christine Drazan.
As you watched the ad, did you catch what I did? Every time the governor's name is mentioned, the announcer adds an “s,” apparently an 's (apostrophe-s), so that the name she pronounces becomes the same as a prominent brand of feminine hygiene products.
Is that an accident? I doubt it. The first three times the name is mentioned, the 's is supposed to be a contraction for "has," putting the verb that follows into the present perfect tense. The fourth and final time, the 's puts the name into the genitive (possessive) case. But those are the phony explanations. It's pretty clear what they did there.
Why did Drazan's people decide to do it? To be funny? I must admit that I've used the ploy from time to time, but never four times in one post, and lately never. It's too easy a joke to be good comedy.
Or is the purpose to be mean, rude, and nasty, all hallmarks of MAGA-ism? Drazan's previous ad told us that Oregon's problems "are not partisan problems, they're leadership problems," but I don't know, this play on the governor's name doesn't scream good leadership.
Maybe somebody will call Drazan out on it when she's campaigning. What's with your people and the governor's name? It's locker room humor at best.
Chris Dudley would have been a better choice because he really cares about solving problems, even though very little experience running an insane asylum. I'll probably vote for the R, just as a protest against the Big Middle Finger party. At least this year we don't have Betsy to spoil the vote.
ReplyDeleteChris Dudley? Really? The guy who's lived in CA since Kitzhaber beat him.
DeleteHe entered the primary late. He hardly campaigned. He had no presence on TV.
Does that sound like a serious candidate to you? The Oregon Duck woulda been a better candidate...
Is there a current candidate that was born in Oregon?
DeleteI wish Dudley was the governor. But, the party affiliation decided the outcome.
DeleteYes, Christine Drazan was born in Klamath Falls.
DeleteWith the surge of people moving to Oregon from liberal states, the Dims have gained an almost impossible advantage, so the Regugs have really no chance. No Republican from Oregon is going to get any legs to be a viable candidate, so the party already concedes the conclusions. So don't get on your high horse about nobody putting money into the race or getting into the race late. These guys know that won't make a difference.
DeleteI think the state of Multnomah County could very well give Drazan the lift needed to win.
DeleteI watched it five times and did not see it. I tried with readers, sunglasses and the naked eye and still nothing. This will be an interesting race....God forbid a republican might win oh my!!!
ReplyDeleteI’m talking about the audio! I've reworded the second paragraph of this post to clarify.
DeleteAfter further review, I did catch it but I think you are grasping for straws.
ReplyDeleteNo, of the four instances, at least two are clearly forced. It was done on purpose, and it’s gross.
DeleteI only saw it once at the end and it refers to the data centers that were approved during Kotek's administration. Oops I meant the Kotek administration. You people are ridiculous!
DeleteI’m talking about the audio! I've reworded the second paragraph of this post to clarify.
DeleteI see that ad constantly, but I really hadn't noticed it.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, my Republican friends call her Ko-TAX.
I'm a NAV and I refer to her as Governor Kotek.
DeleteOh yeah, when a candidate can't win on any serious issues, they devolve into name-calling & personal attacks.
ReplyDeleteAnd neither of these candidates have much of anything to brag about, when it comes to their political records.
It’s intentional, childish, and stupid. MAGAs call her Kotex.
ReplyDeletePicking nits is time consuming and detracts from real life stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, if Democrats were to seize on a misogynist nickname for your girl Drazen, the hollering would be nonstop. Calling out the immature nonsense is entirely appropriate.
DeleteIt would be really cool if this state were capable of putting forth a sober and mature opposition to the current regime. Goodness knows one is needed. Until they appear, however, I'll hold my nose and keep voting Kotek and the rest.
My autocorrect really, really wants her name to be Kotex. The upside... now I closely proofread anything I write that has Kotex's name in it.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what you mean by wishing the Republicans “put forth a sober and mature” opposition candidate to Kotek? Drazen is a longtime leader in the state legislature, finished a not so distant second in the previous Governor’s race and is, by all accounts, both sober and mature in her public behavior. Voters may disagree with her policy positions but hard to understand how her personality or some silly speculation concerning a political ad would inspire one to “hold my nose and keep voting for Kotek AND the rest”? The state desperately needs fresh leadership, hard to imagine that comes from a second term for Kotek? Hope I’m wrong…..
ReplyDeleteI think Tina could do a Trump and say "I could commit murder and I'd still win the race". That's how messed up Oregon has become.
DeleteNo votes for anyone from the party of MAGA, ever. End of discussion.
DeleteAnd “silly speculation”? No, it’s obvious truth. Your comment is projection, the MAGA party’s relentless tactic.
Apparently the ad was made by Strategic Media Services Inc. in Virginia, Drazan has spent $2.5+ million with them, so far.
ReplyDeleteThey were also recently investigated by a US Senate committee, "to understand how $143 million in taxpayer dollars were
spent" -
