Even so

I see the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to let Mudface Caligula take over the coming elections through his toadies running the Post Office. It's the province of the states. It says so right in the Constitution.

That's nice, but given my recent experiences with mailed ballots, I am not trusting my vote to the Postal Service ever again, no matter what their rules are. There are drop boxes set up by the county, and they will have to do. If you can avoid using the mail to deliver your ballot, my advice is, you should.

  1. Alito's dissent is pretty funny. It wouldn't be problematic for the midterms if y'all hadn't taken so dang long with this case!

    1. Hilarious in light of the fact that they rejected the first stay because the case was not ripe.

  2. Driving to a drop box is about as convenient as walking to my old polling place. But, not nearly as satisfying.

    1. I used to walk to the old Albina Library branch, which was the most-used branch in the system before they foolishly shut it down. The folks behind the desk there kept a sharp eye on their drop box. Now the library is a much longer walk, but it's a nice one with the fall colors blazing. I might do it. If I'm going to get in the car, I might as well go all the way to the county elections office.

  3. Mailing my ballot seems very removed from any concept of being a citizen.

  4. Who owns Alito? Asking for a friend.

    2. Speaking of spouses and such, I've been watching the career of former Aloha high school basketball player Maria Hassett for some time. Hassett played a few years at Gonzaga under current Ducks coach Kelly Graves. The Federalists got their talons into her there, sent her to law school at University of Chicago, and set her up with a variety of clerkships and such until she became the deputy solicitor general for Missouri in 2021. She's good buddies with Senator Josh Hawley and that whole crowd. This time last year she was confirmed to the Federal bench at age 37.

Anyway, her husband is a political consultant in Missouri. I'm sure no one involved with his wife's work is writing checks to keep his office lights on. That would be...unethical.

I'm sure they aren't the only ones involved in such relationships. They're just the ones I'm watching.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog2@gmail.com and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
