Uneasy moment
The final results are in in the primary election for the crucial swing Congressional district that includes Vancouver, Washington. The incumbent, Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Reed College Class of 2012, came in second to the main MAGA candidate, John Braun, University of Washington ROTC Class of 1989.
Kalshi says MGP has an 88 percent chance of keeping her seat in the general election, but I wouldn't be so sure. That district has always been a crapshoot. The hard lefties don't like Marie, and the Republicans are, well, Republicans. She's got the power of incumbency, but she's also seemed like a space cadet at times. One recent social media post of hers was especially disturbing. To me, the vote is going to be close.
The current media line is that the Democrats will take back the House in the midterms, and have a shot at retaking the Senate. But things do tend to go sour for the Dems between August and November, and so I'm leaving the champagne in the cellar for the moment.
I guess now would be as good a time as any to repeat my warning about mail-in voting. The post office is no longer reliable. Plan to drop your ballot off at an official drop-off box.
Excuse me? The U.S. is a dictatorship now. There will be no midterm elections. You do remember this don't you?

ReplyDeleteLooking at the overall turnout, the two dems ended up with 54%. If that holds true in the general, MGP should win pretty handily. Hard to imagine the Heinnrich voters staying home or voting for Braun, rather than the lesser evil, given the intensity of loathing for the Republican'ts on the national level.
ReplyDeleteSome of the Braun voters may stay home, or maybe they were "anybody but Marie" voters. It should be close.
