Wising up to Raymond

Here's an interesting Facebook post, a video, about what's happened over in Greeley, Colorado as they clean up after their ex-city manager, Raymond Lee, who is now Portland's top-paid city official. According to critics, Lee blew through a lot of scarce taxpayer money in Greeley assembling and maintaining a personal entourage, feasting on countless "business" meals, and extensive travel. They're cutting more than $700,000 a year of unnecessary spending from the city manager's budget.

Nobody in Greeley City Hall is talking about why Lee left his position there – his employment was officially ended before he was named a finalist for the Portland city manager gig – but his spendthrift ways, now becoming clearer, may have had a lot to do with it.

You have to wonder if Lee's playing the same game here in Portland now. I believe Mayor Keith Wilson's budget gave him four new administrative positions to dole out to his pals. Is anybody on the City Council, or in the Portland media, paying attention?

  1. It's been another strange week at the Portland City Council (I mean seriously, yikes), and the various Portland media just reports on it from their own various 'perspectives'...
Someone who wants to get up to some funny business at City Hall may not be noticed by this utterly dysfunctional city leadership.

    2. The City Council drama is good click bait, but somebody had better keep an eye on the money. Lee is very good at blowing money on himself and lousy at math. Wilson's looking like a one-termer to me.

    3. Could be, with Wilson. He's being mostly quiet lately, he may want the record to show that he's not involved in the drama, if he does run again (or he's just sick of the bickering).
Did you hear that they're all (Council, staff, etc.) going to Spirit Mtn Casino in July, on 'official business'-? I wonder who came up with that idea - to arrange a meet with tribal leaders, but do it in a casino that's not in Portland-?

  2. The news editors and news producers in the Portland media are seeing what’s happening. They’re just spineless when it comes to opening cultural issues.

  3. I heard he proposed changing the name of the town to Greedy...

As for the Portland City Council, er I mean Clown-Show, I feel like we're reenacting the Lord of the Flies, but in a crumbling urban setting. A bunch of petulant rudderless children trying to take on adult roles and responsibilities as everything descends into chaos.
