A man, a plan, a Kanal: Propaganda
There's a Portland City Council election this fall, but it's a little early for the campaign porn to start showing up in the mailbox from the taxpayer-subsidized candidates. And it's way too early to be getting that stuff from somebody who isn't running for re-election until 2028. But that's what I got on Saturday, a four-page 8½-by-11 inch full-color glossy mailer from one of my three representatives on the council. And guess who, my least favorite one.
This fellow has too much taxpayer money on his hands. You wonder how much it cost in time and materials to get this shinola into every household in his district. I thought there was a budget crunch. Apparently I was mistaken.
I don't care if he sends me an adorable puppy, I'll never vote for that dude. He's one of the far-left malignant cells that's got the city tied up in knots. One or two fewer of those extremists on the council, and we've got at least a chance of digging out of the current hole (whch is approaching its second decade).
Voters on the west side and in southeast, it's up to you this fall. Please pay attention this time! The Che Guevara types have got to go, and it's going to take a concerted effort to send them packing, given the insane version of "rank choice" voting that they've put in place.
Remember: "Together we're creating the Portland we deserve." That much, I agree with.

You are right to sound an early alarm concerning city council elections in November but……..our new sober reality in Portland is that this uber focused cabal of socialists have now captured local elections via ranked choice voting. The ability to place socialists in office with 25% or less voter support in low turnout elections will surely place more Che Guevara types on the council rather than less……..power is their drug of choice and we are now helpless guests at their revolution. Truly hope my pessimism is an over reaction but they are likely just getting started in Portland as 66% of Democrats now tell Gallop they view socialism favorably…..
ReplyDeleteOdd how legacy media--and even many in Pirate Media--refuse to confront the reality of rank-choice algorithmic voting. It was dropped, like a bolus from hell, on the unsuspecting (and low IQ) charter commission, back-doored from east coast radicals. It was sold as a way to pack the council with racial minorites--remember, this was during the era (20-21) of maximum white guilt; the inside joke was that the "non-partisan" elections actually gave power to another minority: The DSA. That party is now hollowing-out the Democratic party (
ReplyDeleteYeah we sure are getting the city we deserve by continuing to vote for these Kommie Klowns and voting for every tax increase put on the ballot.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Portland politicians are no longer the problem. It’s the citizens of Portland who keep handing them power. Until there is an influx of new residents with normal political beliefs nothing will change. This is what Portland has become now, love it or leave it.
DeleteI’m old enough to remember when the only communists in the Portland area were on the Reed College campus.
ReplyDeleteYeah, interesting timing...Dunphy's having ongoing challenges playing Council President, could Kanal be preparing to make another run for that position-? Or some other office-??
ReplyDeleteAnd I seriously wish you folks on the Right would stop referring to anybody on the Council as Socialists, Che, etc. - some of them might look like Leftists from y'alls perspective, but they, most assuredly, are not (I honestly don't know what some of them are supposed to be, if I had to choose from the usual current political labels).
Four of them are avowed, card-carrying members of the Democratic Socialist Party. And two others vote in lockstep with them. I don't consider myself "on the right," but I am to the right of these unemployables.
DeleteAnybody can call themselves something, it doesn't automatically follow that they live-by that ideology. It's about what a politician does, not what they say.
DeleteFor example, Dunphy just hired Kristin Dennis to help the Council hand a boatload of The Peoples' money to a predatory-lender (Dundon), who is demanding massive govt handouts for his private business. By bringing-in Dennis, he's clearly not trying to stop it, he wants an experienced political operative to make it acceptable to the voters.
No actual Socialist does that.
(You do have some 'Right-leaning' views, BoJack, but I greatly appreciate you resisting & speaking-out against the current status quo, while informing us all about it, hoping to bring about changes. It's why you have an interesting mix of folks following you. I definitely did not intend to lump you in with the mouth-breathers, apologies.).
I think the label you're looking for is 'grifters.'
DeleteHe only has around $2200. in his campaign account, so I guess he had to make it sound like a report about City business rather than a 'campaign' mailer, so the City would pay to produce & mail it (but I did spot that he'd had a videographer on the payroll, during his previous campaign. Only somebody planning a long & fabulous career in politics does that, just imo).
ReplyDeleteName one elected Democrat that’s criticized the Social Democratic movement.
