Welcome to the renaissance

Good grief, the Port of Portland is a piece of work. Nothing shows off your multi-billion-dollar airport terminal like a carjacking at the active passenger pickup zone. I thought that airports were supposed to have crackerjack security. Yet here we have dangerous, strung-out creeps lurking at the very front door of the facility. Where are the Port police? Oh, well. Try the Blue Star donuts. They might be your last meal.

  1. The area around the airport has always been a place for small crime opportunists. Car theft used to be easy. The airport police seem to have responsibilities similar to a night watchman. Carjacking may change that.

    1. I read somewhere that former Portland Chief Chuck Love L is a captain on the Port force now.

  2. Must have been a slow time at the Airport. Whenever I pick up and drop off someone, it takes me a while to get out from the curb with all the other cars there. But what another horrid sign of our failing city.

  3. You are my main source of news and I'm with you 94% of the time (last time I disagreed was when you went too hard on Jindal). I disagree a bit here too. There are thousands of drop offs every day. It's safe enough. It happened once. I live downtown and take my son to daycare there and there... misgivings are a regularity, not a one-off. The drug paraphernalia in the playground at Couch Park are a monthly event... so there, yes. I don't think it's like that at the airport. Of all our diseased instututions the Port seems to be one that is competent. The airport looks good. They did a good job. I know you think it was not a priority... but at least it makes me proud that we have the most beautiful and functional airport in America. It's not the Lewis and Clark campus but it's pretty enough. So I give the Port my thanks for that.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog2@gmail.com and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
