I disliked the Carpenters when they were popular because they seemed so trite and their fans were mainly girls and young women dreaming of becoming housewives. Now I know that Karen Carpenter was an incredibly talented woman who died an incredibly tragic early death. Not only did she have a remarkably "pure" voice, she has been described as "the most underrated drummer of all time."
