My new representative in Congress, Maxine Dexter M.D., hasn't even finished her first year on the job yet, but of course, she's already got to worry about getting re-elected next year. As long as she doesn't get primaried, there's close to zero chance of her losing her seat. But just in case anybody good is getting any ideas, she's mailed out – at taxpayer expense, of course – the customary annual wrap-up of her activities. An election porn sneak preview, as it were.

I like "Sinister" Dexter fine so far. She's a faithful soldier in the resistance against the Golden Reich, and unlike her predecessor, she's not a nasty old grouch who's been in the same place for too long. Maybe when Gatsby Wyden gets wheeled out to a home, she'll slide over to the senile senior chamber, which would also be an improvement, as far as I can see.

In the meantime, from the mailer it appears she's emphasizing her work helping constituents deal with the federal government, which has got to be a worse chore than ever. If she's good at that as well as at fighting the MAGA atrocities, all the better.

One suggestion to her writers, though: She says she's "driving solutions for Oregon." Here in Portland, you never want to admit to driving. But at least she's not wearing an inane bicycle lapel pin.

  1. We've got Janelle Bynum down here in Clackistan. I've been voting for her since I lived in Powellhurst. She tangled multiple times with Chavez-DeRemer up there and always came out on top. It was cool to see her do it again for the Congressional seat.

Bynum is definitely to the left of Schrader but more moderate than the rest of the Oregon delegation. I like that and I like her. Hopefully we can keep sending her back to Washington for years to come.

  3. How the hell do you calculate money returned to constituents? Does it end up in a local government budget, or more money poured down the drain in public education, or puffing up failed government pensions? I'd rather have a number of dollars we didn't have to send out in the first place.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog2@gmail.com and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
