Take a left at the ice machine

I see that Portland's feckless district attorney, Mikey Schmidt, and his political rival, Nathan Vasquez, held a debate yesterday. But I'm looking at the photos and wondering, where the heck did they hold it, a motel on Interstate Avenue?

Comments

  1. The downtown Hilton. I was there. Wish his opponent would have spent his time saying what he would actually do differently than spend the whole time focusing on what Schmidt has done wrong. Lost opportunity that may have actually lost him some votes according to what I heard from some folks afterwards.

    1. Even Deputy Dawg would beat Schmidt at this point. I'm not sure Vasquez would gain more than he lost if he got too specific. But I'm sad to hear that he's not a killer debater.

    1. I was a young man when the downtown Hilton was a happening location. It’s puzzling that it stays afloat.

    1. The wall lamp looks like it's out of Star Trek. Looks like he would be saying "Beam me up Scotty." (If only.)

    2. That’s because the hotel is technically in receivership, ie…broke!

  5. I’m curious to know the source of his future campaign contributions that are over $250.

  6. You guys are so petty! To be snarking about the tacky decor when the important point was the debate. This was sponsored by the Portland Metro Chamber who probably arranged the venue so not really the candidates' fault. I didn't notice the wall sconce since I was on my moral high horse and was only paying attention to the talking points. But now that you mention it......oh, no! Here I go, and I can't seem to help it! It's like the Four Seasons Landscaping fiasco all over again! You guys are contagious! What if someone at Portland Metro said to someone "book it at the Carlton (as in Ritz) but someone heard Hilton, then the only room available at the Hilton was the ladies room (which is exactly what it looks like to me if I was watching a scene from a 1940s movie with Jean Harlow, so Art Deco) and I mean the outer ladies room where we go to powder our noses for real (I'm female) when we say "I'm going to the powder room" when you think we're going for a different reason. Doesn't matter I guess, but I never would have noticed the decor unless I hadn't read you guys's comments. So it's your fault(s). The important thing is DA Schmidt won the debate, clearly.

    1. It’s important for Mikey to have some supporters. It’ll help redirect his career after the election.

    2. I take and respect your point, but Harlow checked in '37.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
