Portland Street Ambassadors of the Week

I think I speak for the majority of the surviving Baby Boomers in America when I say, we suck. Among the horrors we're leaving for our kids and grandkids to deal with are actual Nazis.

In Portland today, we're looking at two hate crime stories in the news. Some con on the lam from Florida stabbed a couple of teenagers on the Max train, a favorite place for race-motivated murder, Saturday evening. The cops say the perp stabbed the 17-year-olds because of their race.

And of course, it's not his first arrest in Portland, but under Police Chief Chuck Love and D.A. Mikey, he's been out walking around. KPTV has some details of his background, here:

According to court documents, investigators allege that in April, [Adrian] Cummins was involved in a fight on a MAX train which ended on TriMet property near Southwest Second Avenue and Yamhill Street. During the fight a gun fell out, leading to charges of for felon in possession of a firearm, as investigators say Cummins is a convicted felon from Florida.

On Oct. 24, 2022, Flagler County, Florida issued an arrest warrant for Cummins, according to court documents. The documents state that he violated conditions of his parole and then fled the state, after being convicted of third-degree unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Great work, Portland law enforcement! You had the guy and could have sent him back to Florida, but you let him back out to inflict himself on Portland. He'll probably be back out there tomorrow.

The KPTV folks have also tracked down what they say is a mug shot of the guy, which didn't come from Oregon, because out here, you never get to see what the criminals look like, even after they're convicted. Their precious privacy, y'know.

Another soldier in the Trump army, I guess, avenging that American carnage.

Meanwhile, downtown we have this unidentified guy riding around on his white bicycle spitting on, physically attacking, and generally terrorizing an Asian family:

I knew we had bike Nazis, but this is ridiculous.

Oregon has always had a vicious racist streak. A lot of people are giving up on Portland, but guys like these two aren't. Sorry, kids.

UPDATE, Monday night: It gets worse.

Yet another person became a victim of violence while using Portland TriMet last Saturday - this time an unprovoked throat slashing on a MAX platform.

Moctezuma Garcia, 24, is charged with 2 counts of attempted murder for what police say are a series of unprovoked attacks in downtown Portland.

According to court documents, TriMet surveillance from Saturday, August 26 shows Garcia "stalk the victim" and look around for a while at the MAX raised platform near 720 SW Broadway [Pioneer Courthouse Square]. Garcia then allegedly walked up to the victim and slashed his throat in an unprovoked attack...

Later that night, a man was stabbed in the chest outside Momo's bar on Southwest 10th Avenue. Again the suspect was described as a man in his thirties without a shirt....

The suspect, later identified as Garcia, was arrested less than a half-hour later near the intersection of Southwest 14th and Alder.

Multnomah County shows he was released to Washington County last Monday. According to Washington County, he's not in jail there as of tonight. Does that mean he's out on the street again?

  1. Per KGW showing the police report Cummins lists his address as “houseless”

  2. Oh, and then there was the *other guy* slashing throats and stabbing chests downtown on Saturday: looks like everyone survived (so far). Gee, don't know why I can't get on the "downtown Portland is looking up" bandwagon.

    1. See the update. Yes, that guy, who's assembled quite a rap sheet for his age, is apparently also out on the street. Great job, Mikey!

    1. Mikey has never been timid. Under that suit and tie, is a hard core zealot. A hundred years ago he would have been described as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  5. Also, his conviction in Florida was for a serious sexual assault. He was caught with a gun out here just months before this stabbing and released on his own recognizance. Does no one from the DA's Office go to court and advocate that bail is appropriate for a guy like this? Are there no judges who say "wait a minute, why should I release a homeless, violent sex offender who was caught with a gun?" It's absolute lunacy.

  8. With all these knife attacks going on, we could really use more gun laws... Don't mean to be totally flippant with all this carnage going on, but you kind of have to laugh to keep from screaming at the complete malfeasance on all levels.

    1. Yes, after he stabbed two people in a racist attack. He should have been sent back to Florida in April.

  10. Wouldn't just be cheaper to send him back to Florida all expenses paid even 1st class along with a couple of police to keep him cuffed and deliver in person?

    1. Almost all of that is done by sketchy contractors who go around in vans, picking up prisoners to take to various destinations. A lot like car haulers who zigzag around trying to fill the vehicle. The prisoners get knocked around quite a bit, and are fed burgers along the way. Fairly brutal, but cheap.

  11. It’s almost like we are attracting these kinds of losers here for some reason. Must be a few reasons why...but I just can’t put my finger on it.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
