Mikey's on TV again
I see that Portland's terrible district attorney, Mike Schmidt, made the rounds on a couple of TV public affairs shows over the weekend. Here he is on Channel 8, and here he is on Channel 2.
He wants to "have a conversation" about Measure 110. "Maybe we should look at changing the law a little bit." And "the work is just getting started." He's been in office for three years and change.
I'm sure Mikey has pollsters, and I'm sure they're telling him to keep his résumé up to date. He has 483 days left in his term. I do believe he's about to get Jo Ann-ed. It can't come quickly enough in this utterly lawless city. It's not a safe place any more, and the clowns running his office and the worthless police department are totally responsible for it.
Did you see where he and a bunch of other local face cards (and the head of the police union!) are off to Portugal next month to learn about how well decriminalization is going there? Measure 110 ain't going nowhere, baby. NOWHERE!
ReplyDeleteThe trip to Portugal could be the biggest slap in the face yet. Their policies have been an absolute failure, and they reward themselves with a trip to Europe. Get out while you can folks.

ReplyDelete(You aren’t kidding about the wonky commenting.) I’m curious if you have thoughts on what should be done about the public defenders shortage (and who should do it). Also, for what it’s worth, I’m a pretty garden variety liberal (I even like JoAnn), and I can’t wait to vote out Schmidt and also regret my vote for 110.
ReplyDeleteI haven't studied the public defender rat's nest in any detail, but I'm sure it needs a lot of money, and leadership with some spine to, God forbid, tell somebody something they don't want to hear. None of which will you find in Salem.
