Why they're here
The adults at the Trib did a little profile of a street dweller the other day, interviewing a squatter who's joined us lucky Portlanders from the Imperial Valley, down by the California-Mexico border. And several readers of this blog zeroed right in on the money quote:
How does he like Oregon’s drug decriminalization?
“I think it's awesome. Honestly. I think it should be like that everywhere.” He knows he couldn’t sit smoking off foil by the side of the road in San Diego. “There you get a ticket or something.”
Instead of solving the life-and-death struggles of the drug addicts who were already living here, all Measure 110 has done is bring the rest of the country's druggies here to die on our streets.
I wish somebody would circulate a petition for a simple ballot measure: Repeal Measure 110. That's the whole measure: Repeal 110. No amount of election porn would prevent the repeal from passing.
I was naive to read “keep Portland weird” as a cute saying in the same way that the TV show Portlandia was cute. I now realize that some residents want to destroy the established culture.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do. And we are rushing to build more cr-apartments to bring even more of them here.
DeleteThe mullahs here in Clackistan want to put a thing on the county-wide ballot to express our disapproval with Measure 110. I'd much rather see a state-wide initiative to just repeal the damned thing.
ReplyDeleteThey've been making some fairly large pentanol busts in and around Oregon City. We've got a BIG problem down here, but no one wants to talk about it.
What is pentanol?
Delete5x the potency of fentanyl. It's in all the papers.
