M.V.P.! M.V.P.!

The Portland Thorns' forward Sophia Smith has been named the American women pro soccer league's most valuable player of 2022. At age 22, she's the league's youngest recipient of MVP honors ever. How cool is that?

And her team plays for the league championship today at 5 p.m. They go against the Kansas City Current in Washington, D.C. The game will be telecast on KOIN 6.

Given how dreadful the ownership and management of the team are, it's a real tribute to the players that they've stayed focused and made it back to the top. I remember their first championship, in 2013. Some of us went out to the airport to congratulate them.

I hope there's reason to head back out there again. Thorns FC!

UPDATE, that evening: The Thorns dominated, and won 2–0.
