The vigilantes will find your stolen car

KOIN has an amazing story here on a group that goes around Portland finding people's stolen cars for them, because the cops can't or won't do it.

In February, Haas talked with KOIN 6 News about recovering 50 stolen vehicles over a three-month period. As of Wednesday, he has now recovered 200 vehicles and has inspired more Portlanders, like Diestler, that want to help.

This is a real thing. I know one couple whose truck was recently stolen on the Central Industrial East Side of Portland and found by this group, or a similar group, several days later up in the 'Couve. The amateur searchers called the cops, who did show up once the vehicle was spotted, and the couple got it back, disgustingly filthy and slightly dinged up but still working.

It's an absolute outrage that Portland has to have a vigilante auto theft unit. I'm mightily weary of hearing about the "bastard cops" who need to be "defunded." Let's have an auto theft squad at least, for crying out loud. Watch them like a hawk for the racist and Nazi stuff, but let's have one. And don't let them "quiet quit" like they have for the last two years. Sheesh!

Meanwhile, Portlanders, ask yourself, who's more likely to help this situation: Rene Gonzalez or the Magic Orange Traffic Barrel Queen? Please don't be stupid in November.

  1. I have huge doubts that Gonzalez will provide you what you desire.

    1. He's by far the better of the two options.

    3. If it were up to Jo Ann With the Bullhorn, Portland would be even worse. Far worse.

  2. Good for them, but sad City Hall has let the situation slide out of control. The cops have been pissed on by our dear leaders, so not that unhappy they are resentful and not fully engaged. btw - how about restoring the gang division along with your great idea of an auto theft team?

    1. Gang division? Remember, the word "gang" is racist!

    2. They've reinstituted it under a different, morepalatable name: Focused Intervention Team. Whatever. We need more cops. Good cops.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
