Jaime learns her fate

Today's Election Day in the State of Washington. Ballots must be postmarked no later than today, or turned in by 8:00 this evening, to count. They'll start releasing results once they start counting votes tonight.

For the Portland area, the race of most interest is in the Third Congressional District, right across the Columbia. The incumbent, Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler, faces a trio of viable challengers, two from her own party (one endorsed by Orange Caligula) and one Democrat. It doesn't matter what party any of them are from; the top two vote-getters will advance to the general election in November.

If I had to bet, I'd guess Herrera Beutler will survive today. But can the Democrat, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, make it to second place at least? Or will the Trump guy, Joe Kent, be the incumbent's opponent in November? There's also a noisy wild card Republican, Heidi St. John, who will likely have an influence on the outcome, although I doubt she'll survive.

We'll know more tonight, but if first place is clear and second and third places aren't, we may not have the whole picture for a while.
