Back from the beach

There comes a night at the end of every Portland heat wave when you open the window and a wonderful sea breeze fills the room with cool air. You can hear the whole city sigh with relief. Air conditioners get switched off. Good sleep tends to ensue.

That was last night, and this morning. It's been a full week since we've felt anything like it, which is a long absence by our standards. We're spoiled, of course. Many other places around the country go months without feeling that breeze.

There are more hot spells ahead for us over the next six weeks, I'm sure, but the anticipation of those blissful cool-down nights should help to get us through.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
