Poll dancing

The candidates for Oregon governor – (L to R) Moe, Larry, and Curly – have all shown polls around this week. Betsy Johnson says hers shows that Tina Kotek's in first place, and Johnson's second. Christine Drazen says hers reveals that Kotek's first, Drazen's second. The poll that Kotek's showing around (although it's not clear she believes it) says she and Drazen are in a dead heat for first.

What does it mean? It means they all want your money, and are screwing with your mind to get it.

As far as I can see, it's a choice among three levels of disaster: Drazen the worst, Kotek the second-worst, and Johnson the third-worst. So do I vote for the third-worst, or settle for the second-worst to avoid the aboslute worst? We still have four months to figure it out, I guess.

  1. This is a major strength of ranked-choice voting. If you were able to rank your choices (Third-worst as your first-choice, then second worst, then worst) you would not have to be concerned that voting for your most-preferred would end up helping elect the worst.

    1. False. And I'm not going to argue you with you about it. Ranked-choice voting is a solution in search of a problem, and it's a shame that it's destroying the much-needed charter reform in Portland.

  3. I'll take the third worst.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
