Good idea

The New York Times had an interesting editorial the other day. It suggested that the chief justice of the United States Supreme Court, John Roberts, should retire.

He's 67 years old, he's lost control of the Court, and if he keeps voting with his five far-right Federalist Society buddies, he wil go down in history as the figurehead of their extremism. But if he quits now and lets Biden replace him with a liberal, the argument goes, he won't be judged so harshly.

I don't think the author of the editorial believes that it will happen. But I think she is on to something about how Roberts will be remembered, one way or the other. He has seemed like a decent guy up until now, but he won't be able to keep it up much longer with the way the Court is quickly going.
