Do not attempt to adjust the picture

If the main page of this blog looks a little off to you today, you are not alone. Something's happened that has changed the layout on larger screens, and not in a good way. It wasn't me who did it, at least not on purpose. I'm searching for a solution.

This blog is hosted by Google. I made the choice to go with that provider when I restarted the site a couple of years ago. There are disadvantages in working with the Big G, the appalling loss of reader privacy being the biggest. But at least it was fairly reliable, or at least predictable, from a technical standpoint. Until now.

Please bear with me as I try to figure out what's what.
