Two months without Fred Meyer

Time flies when you're having fun. It's hard to believe it's been more than two months since we learned that Kroger, the Cincinnati-based parent company of the Fred Meyer and QFC stores, had put Elaine Chao on its board of directors. Yes, that Elaine Chao, the ex-Trump transportation secretary and wife of the most evil bastard of our era, Mitch "Turtle" McConnell. Excuse me while I spit after saying his name.

Anyway, I swore that the Chao thing was the last straw for me, and I would no longer shop at Fred Meyer. As for QFC, I never shopped there anyway. They had a store near us for a long time, but they closed it quite a while ago.

Have I kept my vow for the last two months? Mostly. I have been inside a Fred Meyer exactly twice since the Chao news broke. Once was to pick up a prescription refill, and I will ask my doctor to change that situation going forward. The other visit was necessitated by the infamous Costco toilet paper incident.

I did show up in the EffEm parking lot a third time, to drop off a couple of bags of returnable beverage containers. They had to sort them and credit me my deposits. Take that, fascists.

  1. Yeah....I'm still working my way around the neighborhood Safeway and finding decent bagels (Sesame Donuts, folks). I still have not yet been back to Trader Joe's, but I'm fairly sure that I shall, thanks to the Chao decision.

Here's a quick question: If there is more than one member of her family present, is that Chaos? Or, just merely ongoing corruption?

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
