Say his name, too

Jacob Knight Vasquez. Another innocent life lost to lawless Portland.

  1. We can't. It doesn't fit the narrative.

    1. Chris- What an insensitive thing to say. It may not "fit the narrative" but it is a tragedy when people are senselessly murdered. You sound like a real jerk.

    2. Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous, something tells me you don't have a firm grasp of words like "absurdity," "hypocrisy" and when someone tries to point it out. I'll explain further. Politicians and many local (meaning monied) advocacy groups will pay occasional lip service to the plight of victims--68 in Portland at last count--but the fact is they are just an inconvenient truth to many of them. Victims don't fit the narrative because they have no powerful legislative lobby, no hordes marching night after night demanding others "say their name" and requiring change, no political power, no catchy slogans or powerful 503 (c)'s working on their behalf. You know why? They. Don't. Fit. The. Narrative. If those in a real position to enact change leaned into causes like crime prevention and support for crime victims, we would have fewer dead souls like Jacob Knight-Vasquez. So if I'm a jerk for pointing out the absurdity/hypocrisy of the plight of the crime victim in a city like Portland--victims who are far more often often people of color-- on a blog that often points out the absurdity/hypocrisy of the political landscape, so be it. It's better than being thin skinned and blind.

  2. My cousin's 27 year husband was murdered in a gang initiation slaying. He was white, does that make his suffering and the suffering of his wife and two small children any less? I can only hope that Jacob Vasquez's family members don't read your cruel remark. Sometimes, being "flippant" is uncalled for. I'm sure you thought you were being ever so clever, but really you were just being an asshole.

    1. You are just not getting the fact that “Chris” is making your case, are ya. How do you read this blog and not get irony? He’s agreeing with you. “His suffering should be honored but it is not being honored because… it doesn’t fit the narrative”. Capeesh?

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
