Wrist slapped

I see that one of the Proud Boy types, this one from Milwaukie, was sentenced to mere probation this week for firing live ammunition in a standoff with left-wing demonstrators in downtown Portland in August of 2020.

Police reviewed video footage of [Skylor] Jernigan driving a car out of a parking garage, pointing a gun out a car window and firing two shots before driving away, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Jernigan said he heard something hit his car and fired two shots from his 9mm handgun to scare people, according to the affidavit. He also said he was concerned he had shot someone, the affidavit stated...

Jernigan, now 28, was sentenced to three years of probation and 80 hours of community service. During his probation, he won’t be allowed to carry guns and certain weapons or attend gatherings that have been declared unlawful assemblies.

It seems a little light. He could have killed someone. Surely this sentence will feed the black-bloc narrative that the system is much harder on the left than it is on the right.

It was an ugly, ugly day in Portland history. A stronger message could have been sent. I suspect we'll be reading about this guy again before long.
