Speaking of bus driver shortages, Portland's transit system, Tri-Met, is having trouble finding people who want to be bus drivers. Gee, how surprising. In addition to the hazards of driving all day in a city with virtually no traffic enforcement, Tri-Met drivers are under regular threat from violent mentally ill street people, and the stray gangster bullet or two. You'd have to be at least half-crazy to sign up for that.
