Any night is murder night in Portland

The last call shoooting show expands to a Thursday night edition. And now in places like Northwest 21st and Glisan.

Last evening I was in my car waiting at a red light over by the Rose Garden. And for the first time in 43 years of living in Portlandia, I was actually a little scared.

  1. Portland has always had a sketchy side, but now the violence seems to be more out in the open as opposed to the past when bullets weren’t flying so much in public spaces. I used to read the FBI crime statistics when I was in like 4th grade.....yeah I was an unusual kid, and Portland had a pretty high homicide rate even back then in the early 70’s.

But most of the time it didn’t effect others, unless you happened to be on the wrong end of a robbery or a domestic violence incident. For a city that prided itself so much on livability and a “small town feel”, it is hard to witness the changes of the last 5 or 10 years. Now that I live outside of town if I am driving through I just look straight ahead and try not to look around. It is too heartbreaking to see what has become of such a once nice city.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
