Put your mask back on

The latest numbers from the state on Covid in Oregon are now entering alarm territory. The intensive care unit population is particularly scary.

You have to start wondering whether schools are really going to reopen a month from now. As for all those indoor concerts, they might also be wishful thinking as well.

They said at the outset that there would be waves like this. We seem to have forgotten that, once we got our shots. The politicians may hold their "mission accomplished" parties, but the bug keeps morphing. It's still dangerous. I'm reading a social media post from a vaccinated friend who has caught it in his fully vaccinated workplace.

Vaxxed or not, wear a mask in public indoor spaces. If you can, stay out of places where people are not wearing theirs.

  1. I was on the mask helps bandwagon early, but research now shows that the virus spreads not from droplets but through aerosols. "A Covid viral particle is around 100 nanometers, material gaps in blue surgical masks are up to 1,000 times that size, cloth mask gaps can be 5,000 times the size."

We just have to keep our immune systems as healthy as possible, minimize contacts and get as fit as possible (huge issue for far too many Americans). If this virus follows a typical mutation pattern it will become more contagious but less dangerous, as we are seeing from the official data coming out of the UK and Israel now. Out Delta curve is likely to peak in a couple of weeks.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
