Out of the frying pan...

Former Portland police chief Danielle Outlaw is now the police chief in Philadelphia. Things are not going so well there.

In an effort to quell gun violence this Memorial Day weekend, Philadelphia will deploy dozens of violence interrupters to high-risk neighborhoods with hopes of stopping shootings before they happen....

More than 800 people have been shot so far this year, including more than 80 children under the age of 18, according to police.

At least 208 people have been murdered so far this year, putting the city on pace to set a new single-year record for homicides.

Starting this weekend, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said her department will be increasing patrols in neighborhoods across the city, including at recreation centers.

And the media back there have noticed that the Portland cops got away with some questionable behavior when she was the chief here.

Of course, anyone here could have told them that. The Portland cops never stop with the meanness, except when it's superseded by the laziness. It doesn't matter who the chief is.

Still, it would be hard to say she's a hit in her new assignment. You wonder how long she'll be able to hang on before she takes the fall for the appalling state of her new city. She's been there only 15 months.
