The overachievers

The Oregon State Beavers men's basketball team fell to Houston this evening. OSU dug themselves a 34-17 hole by halftime, then managed to tie it back up with less than four minutes left to go, but they faltered down the stretch.

The Beavs were picked to finish last in the Pac-12 Conference this year. Instead, they won the conference tournament and were a couple of baskets away from making it to the Final Four. They provided many moments of what CatFoodBreath disdainfully refers to as Sports Yelling.

Tonight's furious comeback was phenomenal. Oregon State slapped a modified zone defense on the 2-seed Cougars, who never did quite figure it out. The Beavers were smart and quick and strong, and they gave their blue-chip opponents a real scare.

The team from Corvallis made history, even if it ended a little sooner than they wanted it to. For that, we love them.

Based on what I saw tonight, I'd say Baylor is going to mop the floor with Houston in the Final Four.
