Adventures in law enforcement

How could it happen? How could the Portland police allow a man accused of attempted murder of a police officer to simply walk away from the Central Precinct and escape?

Yesterday the cops gave us their answer: "The cleaning lady didn't close the door all the way."

I am not making this up.

If you wonder why the Portland police can't solve the problems of gang gun battles, anarchist rioting, and their own brutality, think about it. Even if they cared, they wouldn't know how.

  1. The PPB is simply a microcosm of the general incompetence found all over the State of Oregon. The best people don't want government jobs because there is no perceived honor in such positions and no responsibility nor value for civic duty. Add the uncompetitive salaries to the problem and this is how you get a long line of succession.

  2. I agree with most of what DJO says, but the salaries and benefits are comparable or better than the a lot of private sector jobs.

    1. Actually, the Portland cops aren't in PERS. They are in a 0%-funded pension plan of their own, paid out of this year's property taxes. It's a disaster.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
