Van Morrison is mad that places are closed

He's got protest songs coming out over the next few weeks, objecting to lockdown restrictions in the U.K.

Like Van, I'm deeply saddened that live music venues are shuttered, and many of them are threatened with bankruptcy. But I'm also glad that the government is not allowing "super spreader" events, like a packed Van Morrison concert.

Van is 75 years old. Probably doesn't like being told what to do. Especially by people in London. Got it.

But I don't think I'll be singing along.

  1. Van Morrison has always been an ornery cuss -- sadly, just because he's a great artist doesn't mean he's on the right side of this issue.

  2. It will be interesting to see how many of the old rockers fade away because they can't tour during the pandemic. My fervent hope for Bob Dylan and his Neverending Tour is that he will discover he's ready to get off the road and retire. It could be one of those things that's forced on him but he ends up liking. The road can be an addiction so this pandemic is cold turkey for a lot of these guys. This applies to the Rolling Stones as well. They had to cancel their tour this summer and the last leg featured a couple of hurricanes. It seems like it could be time. Charlie Watts is 79, for Christ sake. You know the ending is coming and I really want it to be fitting of the band. Retiring because of a pandemic has the right level of scale. We'll see. That would mean the band's last concert was last August in Miami - a concert that had to be moved up one day because of an approaching hurricane. And now the pandemic. These could be signs.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
